The Kingdom of English is a web-based English language practice platform designed for ESL (English as a Second Language) and EFL (English as a Foreign Language) contexts. It was created in 2023 by David Satler, a teacher with more than a decade of classroom experience teaching English in Austria.
The platform was built to address specific problems that ESL and EFL teachers face when using generic digital tools: complicated setup processes, poor homework accountability, limited content coverage, and pricing models designed for institutions rather than individual teachers. Every feature was designed from direct teaching experience rather than market research.
The platform runs entirely in the browser. There is no app to download. Students and teachers access it at thekingdomofenglish.com on any device with a modern web browser.
The teacher account is designed for individual ESL and EFL teachers who need to manage student practice outside of class time. Teachers can create up to 60 student accounts, assign specific exercises across all skills, track completion and scores, and use leaderboards to maintain student engagement. The teacher dashboard provides a complete view of each student's progress across grammar, reading, listening, writing, and vocabulary.
The individual account provides full access to all practice content for self-directed learners. This includes all 60 grammar topics, all reading and listening exercises, writing practice with AI feedback, vocabulary training, and the language games. Progress tracking and gamification features are included.
The platform targets B1 to C1 levels on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). This covers intermediate through upper-intermediate and into advanced English. Grammar topics include areas such as present perfect vs past simple, reported speech, passive voice, conditionals, relative clauses, gerunds and infinitives, articles, and prepositions.
The Kingdom of English uses AI to evaluate student responses in three areas: reading comprehension, listening comprehension, and writing practice. Unlike platforms that rely solely on multiple choice questions, The Kingdom of English requires students to write their answers in their own words.
For reading and listening exercises, the AI evaluates whether the student's written response demonstrates genuine understanding of the text or audio passage. This provides a more accurate assessment than selecting from predetermined options.
For writing practice, the AI provides detailed feedback covering grammar accuracy, text structure, vocabulary use, and content quality. Teachers can review both the student's writing and the AI's feedback through the teacher dashboard.
The teacher dashboard provides per-student and per-class visibility across all skills. Teachers can see:
Teachers create student accounts directly from the dashboard. Students do not need their own email addresses to join. The setup process is designed to get an entire class connected within minutes, not hours, and the assignment workflow makes it practical to turn that setup into regular homework and follow-up.
The platform uses four gamification mechanisms to maintain student engagement over time:
The teacher plan includes up to 60 student accounts at no additional per-student cost. Both plans include full access to all content, features, and games. All plans start with a 7-day free trial. No credit card is required to start the trial.
For institutions needing multiple teacher accounts, custom pricing is available by contacting support@thekingdomofenglish.com.

The Kingdom of English is a smaller, teacher-built platform. It does not attempt to be a general-purpose learning management system. Its advantage is that every feature was designed specifically for the ESL and EFL classroom by a working teacher, with affordable pricing aimed at individual teachers rather than institutional licensing.
If you want a more focused look at how the platform works in practice, these guides go deeper into assignments, skill practice, and classroom use:
The Kingdom of English was created by David Satler, an ESL and EFL teacher with over 10 years of experience teaching English in Austria. Originally from Slovenia, David's experience learning multiple languages informed his approach to building a practice platform that addresses real classroom needs.
The first version of the platform launched in January 2023. Since then, it has been continuously developed and refined based on direct classroom use and student feedback. The platform represents more than two years of dedicated development work.
